Angie is school counselor by day and a yoga teacher on nights and weekends. Her passion is to bring about healing to her world through connection, support, empowerment and listening.

I give myself permission to…fail, ask for help, be honestly flawed, step outside of my comfort zone, quit, go to child’s pose, pause, put my knee down, say “I dont know,” say NO, say YES, and speak up for myself and others with love.
How do you tend to your soul? My mornings are the most sacred part of my day where I get quiet, go inside and fill up on my own cup. My typical morning ritual includes: warm water with lemon + capful of aloe gel while my tea water boils, once my tea is ready, I settle in to meditate, then either read or journal, I do a few yin yoga poses and then start my day. This time to myself is a divine responsibility to fulfill to myself so I show up better for others. When time permits, I also freely take naps, get massages and attend long, hot yoga classes. These are not selfish indulgences, but necessary re-boots for my soul.
How do you rebel against fear? I breath deep and make peace with it. I practice being fearwith vs. fearless. I am by no means fearless, I am scared of so, so many things and I used to waste a great amount of time being fearful & avoiding all the bad things that could potentially happen to me or my loved ones. Until one day something really bad actually happened. In March 2012 my father was the victim of a violent homicide. I was completely shattered but very aware that I had a long journey of healing ahead of me. It took me months to make peace with the way my dad was taken from this physical world and I did it through meditation. I brought the images into my meditation that were keeping me from sleeping and practiced breathing through them. In time, I was finally able to find peace and now that same breath carries me up hiking mountains although I am afraid of heights, practicing my handstand kicks, even though I am afraid of breaking my neck and doing work presentations in Spanish even though I am afraid I will mess up horribly.
What does CONNECTION mean to you? Connection is those honest moments with both myself and others. It’s a spark of bonding with one another over commonalities, learning from each others’ differences and figuring out how we can support one another in sharing space in this world. I also consider connections with women a divine responsibility in order to tear down the structures that pit us against one another. We can do this by cheering for one another, not repeating or stopping a rumor and defining sisterhood for ourselves outside of the patriarchal gaze.
